Archer Malmo, a leading brand communications agency, today announced the firm is finalizing the acquisition of Combustion, a Memphis boutique creative agency led by Billy Riley, who founded the company in 1997.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to add great talent,” said Russ Williams, CEO of Archer Malmo. “Combustion’s exceptional creative team led by Billy Riley adds considerable creative strength to the agency.”

Combustion will continue to operate under its current brand and remain in its current location in Midtown through July 2017 when the lease for that location expires. At that point, the Combustion team will join the rest of the Archer Malmo Memphis team downtown.

“We’re very proud of what we’ve built here at Combustion and are honored to be joining Archer Malmo,” said Riley. “This will free us from administrative burdens and allow us to focus 100 percent of our energy on our clients and our work.”

The Combustion team will report to Gary Backaus, chief creative and strategy officer. The acquisition will add several clients to the Archer Malmo roster, including International Paper, Memphis College of Art and Brother Industries, among others.

The acquisition is expected to close at the end of May and will push Archer Malmo’s total staff to 205 across all offices in Memphis and Austin.
