On Tuesday, May 17, in Durham, North Carolina, on the eve of the NC Ag Biotech Entrepreneurial Showcase, ag experts, innovators, entrepreneurs and media from across the country gathered for an exclusive networking event called “The Combine.” Hosted by Archer Malmo and sponsored by AgLaunch, The Cotton Board and Baker Donelson, the event convened more than 40 industry leaders for food, drinks and candid discussion.
“The Combine brings together startup ag companies, investors, and university and local leaders in a social setting to discuss agricultural innovation and the future direction of the industry as it pertains to meeting the need to feed a growing population,” stated Mike Butler, senior vice president of Archer Malmo. “We need new processes, new production methods and a transfer of technology into this sector if we are to meet the demand.”
The Combine was hosted at Parizade on West Main Street. Attendees were invited based on their leadership within the ag industry and their commitment to shaping the future of agriculture with creativity and technology.
This is the second Combine event hosted by the agency. The first Combine event took place in Memphis on the eve of the MidSouth Gin Show in February 2016. More than 70 attendees including startups, venture capitalists, local ag leaders as well as influencers from Ag Watch Network, One Grower Publishing and The Memphis Daily News attended the event. The agency will continue to look for opportunities to host additional Combines in the future.
